The digital files you have on your devices need to be evaluated for there long term survival.

In the future hardware and software may become obsolete. This referred to machine dependency issues: the files currently can operate on hardware and software currently available but in the future they may not being supported.

This is logical preservation: converting to formats that retain the information in a format that is readable and accessible into the future.
