An important step once records photos etc have been appraised to be preserved / kept is to make sure that file formats are widely used, well supported and open source if practical so that you may be able to access these memories and information into the future.
This should be a consideration when saving files: consider if the file can be open on a wide range of programs or is it specific to one app / application. Today it may not matter but in 10 years it could be difference between seeing a photo or video and it being lost due to software obsolescence.
